Title: P’AN FEI
A concubine of Tung-hun Hou, sixth sovereign of the Southern Ch’i dynasty - A.D. 498)
Story: Tung-hun Hou, sixth sovereign of the Southern Ch’i dynasty (A.D. 498) had water-lilies made of gold leaf. He then had his retainers place them on the ground for his concubine, P’an Fei to dance upon. Upon seeing her effortlessly glide across them as if lifted on the wings of doves, he exclaimed to all who would listen, “Every step makes a lotus grow!” Here a harem of female Koi dance, suspended in the world of water and wonder, their colors flashing...each movement of their bodies scarcely causing a ripple. And to the amazement of some, miraculously 2 water-lilies appear. 2 steps 2 heaven. Perhaps one Koi being the reincarnation of the beautiful and graceful P’an Fei.
